CitiGroup – Ingimar DeRidder

Jesus Saves

CitiGroup got saved this Sunday.  Well, maybe not actually “saved,” maybe just a brief stint on the mourner’s bench and, well –maybe the tears were not real after all, but it did get Billions this SundayInvestment bankers getting  “Billions” these days, is their equivalent of “getting saved.”    Perhaps, like so many “short-lived professions,”  maybe CitiGroup didn’t actually get saved, perhaps it just got religion.  There is a big difference.  It’s the difference between a believer and a make-believer.  Time will tell.  When Zacchaeus “got saved” he set about to change his ways.

Just what would it take to bring a financial giant to its knees at the prayer altar?  CitiGroup stock  fell  87% from its high this year.  Like the prodigal son in Luke, CitiGroup spent its substance in riotous living.  Its profligate ways has forced it (like the prodigal) to “come to himself.”

What would Jesus say about all these phony professions in the banking industry and CEO’s who beg for billions from their limousines?  He said it in Matt. 13.  Beware the deceitfulness of riches.  Satan tempted Christ Himself in the wilderness showing Him all the Kingdoms and treasures of the world in a moment of time saying “all this will I give you, if you worship me.”  Jesus, who made the world and the gold that’s in it, knew fool’s gold when He saw it.  America has been deceived.

The Bible also says, “unto whom much is given, much shall be required.”  No one has been given as much as America.  Now she must give account.  Money will not save us.  We are the world’s greatest consumer.  Perhaps we have consumed our self.  We need to be saved.

The Treasury Secretary can’t save us, the President can’t save us , the Fed Chairman can’t save us either.  Peter and John found a beggar sitting at a gate while they were on their way to church.  Peter said “Silver and Gold have I none, but such as I have, give I unto you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”  The Bible then describes a once crippled man who began to jump and leap for joy.  Call it a leap of faith if you want, but repentance and believing in Jesus is the only thing that can save an un-Christian nation.  -id
